Discover a fantastic range of holiday homes in Yorkshire from seaside apartments and cosy log cabins to stylish townhouses and traditional stone cottages.
Known to locals as ‘God’s Own County’, as the largest region in England, Yorkshire has an amazing variety of habitats offering something for every kind of wild adventurer.
The coastline stretches for nearly 100 miles and beaches vary from family-friendly stretches of sand like Saltburn-on-the Sea, Filey, and Scarborough to sheltered rocky bays perfect for watersports such as surfing, wind surfing, and kayaking. Head to Whitby for a traditional seaside experience. Build sandcastles, explore rockpools, take a sailing trip to see seals, dolphins, and porpoises, enjoy fish and chips at the renowned Magpie Café, and walk up to the abbey to follow the route taken by Dracula.
The North York Moors has one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the British Isles, and is a haven for wildlife. Red grouse are found all across the moors, while lapwings, curlews, and redshanks breed in the undergrowth. In spring and summer look out for adders and lizards, and if you get up early enough you might spot a deer.
With plenty of trails, outdoors enthusiasts will enjoy walking cycling, and mountain biking through this beautiful landscape.
To the west is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a series of glacial valleys characterised by upland pastures grazed by sheep and cattle separated by dry stone walls. With spectacularly scenery, it’s a paradise for walkers and climbers. Take on the tough Three Peaks Challenge, a 25-mile circular route that covers Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, try your hand at scaling one of the limestone crags, or for something more leisurely take a stroll along one of the park’s numerous rivers.
Bird watchers will enjoy a day out at Bempton Cliffs at Flamborough Head in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where they’ll have the opportunity to spot puffins, gannets, razorbills, and kittiwakes, against a dramatic backdrop of chalk cliffs.
Alternatively head inland to Fairburn Ings, a wetland nature reserve managed by the RSPB, consisting of reedbeds, wet grasslands, woodland, and lagoons. Keep an eye out for some of Britain’s rarest including bitterns, bearded tits, little egrets, and spoonbills.
After a day exploring, Yorkshire has plenty of cosy country pubs and inns to wind down in. Try one of the many locally brewed beers, or treat yourself to a hearty lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding followed by rhubarb crumble.
Yorkshire has plenty of impressive cities, market towns, picturesque hamlets, and fishing villages to explore. The town of Beverley is well worth a visit with its 13th century minster, and excellent shopping and food scene. Or step back in time at The Shambles in York, one of the best preserved medieval streets in Europe, where you’ll find quirky boutiques, antiques and curiosities shops, and artisan cafes.
With dales and uplands, towering cliffs, historic houses and castles, pretty villages, and an important industrial and maritime heritage, Yorkshire is a wonderful destination for a holiday offering a multitude of choices.
If you want to make your holiday to Yorkshire extra special, why not choose a holiday cottage with a hot tub or an open fire. You’ll also find cottages with BBQs and pizza ovens so you can enjoy an outdoor dining experience at your home from home. And you’ll be able to bring your dog with you as many of these holiday homes are pet friendly.
